Joan M. OsikShrewsbury – Joan M. (Pickett) Osik, 81, of Shrewsbury, passed away after a long illness on Feb. 5, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 11, 1939 in Jamaica Plain, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (McAvoy) Pickett.

Joan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston College School of Nursing receiving her BSN in 1961, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. She worked as a registered nurse in the US Public Health Service and numerous hospitals including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and UMass Medical Center.

She was a devoted member of St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury where she had been an Eucharistic minister and Catechists for many years. She also volunteered for many years at St. John’s Catholic Church, Worcester in a prayer group ministry. She enjoyed sharing her faith and always cherished the experience of traveling on pilgrimages to Medjugorje, Italy and the Holy Land with her sister Judy. In her spare time, she enjoyed listening to music, reading, quilting and had a passion for gardening. She also enjoyed attending recitals, cheer competitions, sports games and graduations of her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She especially loved holidays with the family.

Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Stephen W. Osik of Shrewsbury; her four children, Diana Granger and her husband Paul of Aurora, Co. Todd Osik and his wife Christine of Shrewsbury, Stacy Richard and her husband Mark of Hampstead, N.H., and Audrey Fisher and her husband Mike of Shrewsbury; and her sister, Judith (Pickett) Vacca of Wilmington, Del.; and was the loving nana of nine grandchildren, Stephanie and Rachael Granger, Drew and Derek Osik, Elizabeth, Nicholas and Matthew Richard, Davis and Cole Fisher, and many nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Joan’s Mass of Christian burial and interment will be held for immediate family only.

Relatives and friends are thanked for their love and support during this difficult time.
