Marlborough – Poorvi Mohanakrishnan, a tenth grade student at Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School, won the local Marlborough Lions Club level of the Massachusetts Lions Youth Speech Competition in December.

She then advanced in the competition by winning the Zone 8K level on Jan. 17, which was organized by Lions Zone Chair and Marlborough Lion Mark Gibbs. Marlborough Lions Fatima Garrity, Maureen Pulice, and Laura Koester assisted with the online Zone competition as well. She then qualified for the Region level competition held Jan. 30.

The theme this year was “Is Winning Everything?”.

Mohanakrishnan is an avid competitive swimmer, a member of the school’s Leaders of Tomorrow community service and leadership club, a student government representative, and a middle school speech coach at AMSA.

The Marlborough Lions noted they were “proud to sponsor this talented young woman, and are inspired by her and all the youth in the competition.”
