Beverly SchmidtShrewsbury – Beverly (Watson) Schmidt, 89, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Cromwell, Conn., and Manhasset, N.Y., passed away on Feb. 25, 2021 after a brief illness.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry P. Schmidt; her son, Greg Schmidt and his wife Sharon of Harvard; her daughter, Carol Swegle of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and her grandsons, Matthew and Jon Schmidt and Scott Swegle and his wife Maddy and Jeff Swegle. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, William Watson.

Bev was born and raised in Yonkers, N.Y., attended Geneva College and briefly taught 4th grade before opting to stay home to raise her family. She devoted her life to caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and granddogs, showing her love by cooking, cleaning, shopping and worrying. Bev had an amazingly optimistic attitude, a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh and loved to play games, especially Skip-bo and “the dice game.”

Bev lived the adage “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” and put others above herself at every opportunity. She volunteered for every field trip her children ever attended, gave 30 years of service to the North Shore University Hospital auxiliary in Manhasset and, as a woman of deep faith, gave unselfishly to the Congregational church wherever she lived.

Always eager to please her family and to be prepared for an emergency, she was a prolific shopper who, thankfully, never learned how to order via Amazon.

Bev and Harry traveled extensively in retirement and her favorite place to be was Deer Valley in Park City, Utah, with her family.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Chiampa Funeral Home of Shrewsbury is assisting with arrangements.
