Hudson – The Hawks volleyball team kicked off its 2021 season, this week, with a pair of games against South Lancaster Academy.

A somewhat unfamiliar opponent, the Hawks played the Crusaders at home on March 15. They then headed to South Lancaster on March 17.

“What a come back!” Hudson Athletic Director Jessica Winders tweeted after Hudson won that March 15 match. “Great way to start the season Hawks!”

South Lancaster opened the scoring, that day, by winning set one. Hudson then took control, though, winning three consecutive sets to take the overall matchup by a 3-1 margin.

Senior Captain Jenny Larrieux led the scoring with eight aces and 10 kills across four sets. Senior Julie Kuhn racked up a pair of aces and eight kills while freshmen Lauren Shurling and Kelsie Figueredo notched three aces and five kills each.

On the defensive end, Freshman Libero Addison Murphy performed 12 digs. Jessica MacDonald, a sophomore, followed with six.

Notching a victory in their season opener, things didn’t go as well in game two. South Lancaster shut out the Hawks on their home court, 3-0.

Finishing their first week of games, the volleyball team will now move on to matchups against Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical High School and Leominster High School, respectively, on either end of this coming weekend.
