Shrewsbury – Norma C. (Caird) Bowen, 86, of Shrewsbury, passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2021 at UMass Memorial Hospital.
Born and raised in Colbrook, N.H., Norma was one of two children born to the late Ernest S. and Mabel (Charest) Caird. After graduating from high school, she met and married the love of her life, Dr. Gerald E. Bowen, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage, travel, laughter, and love. They especially enjoyed spending time at their condo in Waterville Valley, N.H. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, where Dr. Bowen worked as a gastroenterologist.
Norma had a passion for history and was known to be a World War II buff, was an avid reader, and loved birds. Most of all, she cherished her grandchildren and the memories they shared.
She leaves her loving children, David C. Bowen and his wife Paula of Cumberland, R.I., and Joan M. Dowd and her husband Gregory of Shrewsbury; her beloved grandchildren, Alexandra Bowen Greenfield and her husband Allen, Julia Bowen and her fiancé Sean Buckley, and Hannah, Brendan, and Andrew Dowd; her brother, George Caird, of Colbrook, N.H.; along with two nieces and a nephew.
A prayer service and burial will be held privately for Mrs. Bowen’s family. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
