Bank robbery in Shrewsbury, suspect arrested

Shrewsbury – A man allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money from a Shrewsbury TD Bank, April 6, police say. 

At approximately 12:53 PM, the Shrewsbury Police Department received a report of a bank robbery at TD Bank, located at 200 Boston Turnpike, roughly a half mile east of the Ken Burns Bridge. 

According to a press release, the suspect reportedly passed a note demanding money and fled. Police said the suspect did not display any weapons. Likewise, no employees or bystanders were injured during the incident. 

Multiple officers responded to the scene. However, the suspect had fled prior to officers’ arrival. 

Police built a description of the robbery suspect thanks primarily to witness statements, their release read. 

Approximately 17 minutes after first reports of the robbery came in, Worcester Police located and detained the suspect on Myrtle Street in Worcester. Shrewsbury officers and detectives responded, identified the man as the suspect, and placed him under arrest. 

As of 11:30am on April 7, Shrewsbury police are identifying this suspect as Stephen Waterman, age 53, of 13 South Main Street, Troy NH. Waterman is being charged with Unarmed Robbery.
