Marlborough – Low flying helicopters may suddenly become a familiar sight for some Marlborough residents, this spring.

In a series of operations that kicked off, March 20, pilots are, indeed, flying low and hovering over parts of the city, police said in an advisory, March 22.

All this connects to routine power line inspections that National Grid is conducting. Providing electricity services in Marlborough, National Grid has contracted with Chesapeake Bay Helicopters out of Chesapeake, VA to help visually examine and photograph “transmission-line structures.”

Those photos, in turn, will let engineers analyze the actual condition of Marlborough’s energy infrastructure.

Inspections will continue through May.
