UPDATE: A letter of intent available through Marlborough’s City Council agenda packet says BJs is seeking a 20 year lease at 350 Campus Drive. If all goes to plan, BJs could move to Marlborough next fall.
MARLBOROUGH—BJs Wholesale Club is looking to move its headquarters, currently located in Westborough, to Campus Drive in Marlborough.
The company has filed an application with the City of Marlborough for a tax-increment financing (TIF) agreement as it seeks to lease approximately 187,000 square feet in two buildings from Greatland Realty Partners. In addition, BJs is planning to build a parking garage on the property.
The TIF request is on the City Council’s agenda for its upcoming April 26 meeting.
BJs plans to spend approximately $36 million on interior building construction and the construction of that new parking structure.
In a letter of intent released publicly with the City Council’s April 26 agenda, David Picot of the company SVP Real Estate & Property Development indicated BJs is particularly eyeing a 20 year lease on space at 350 Campus Drive. If things to go plan, it would move in next fall.
The company moved its headquarters from Natick to 25 Research Drive in Westborough in 2011. That move brought a major company back into local office space once occupied by National Grid. Now, a move to Marlborough would relocate 800-1000 BJs employees, potentially leaving the large concrete complex at 25 Research Drive empty once again.
The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation oversees compliance of TIF agreements.
