WESTBOROUGH – Firefighters from multiple area towns beat back a large brush fire beside train tracks in town on May 25.

Though the fire didn’t impact any structures, it shut down roadways for over an hour and sent dark smoke washing over nearby neighborhoods.

All this happened specifically in the areas of Maynard St, Kings Grant Rd and Hadley Ln off Milk St.

The response initially focused on a particular patch of fire behind Maynard St. By 5pm, though, firefighters were leaving that scene to shift, in part, a quarter mile down the tracks where another flare-up scorched a patch of brush.

This cluster of fires broke out on a busy day for the Westborough Fire Department.

Just hours earlier they were at the VFW Post three quarters of a mile down Milk St fighting a fire there.

Later in the evening, firefighters also headed to Shrewsbury to help fight a structure fire.

That damage was contained to the attic of an impacted building.

“Thanks to the early notification and the quick response, the damage was minimal, and the occupants were not displaced,” the Shrewsbury Fire Department wrote in a statement on Facebook. “Thank you to Worcester EMS and our mutual aid partners in Northborough and Westborough for their assistance.”
