MARLBOROUGH — A Marlborough man was taken to the hospital after being shot in the arm Thursday morning, according to Marlborough Police Sgt. Zachary Attaway.

Marlborough officers responded at 9:36 a.m. to a report of a gunshot in an apartment in the 50 block of Briarwood Lane, which is part of The Heights at Marlborough apartment complex.

Attaway said the victim, a 29-year-old man, was shot by an “unknown assailant.”

He said the assailant then fled in a vehicle.

Officers quickly responded and set up a perimeter. The man who had been shot was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The assailant has not been arrested, but Attaway said police were “actively investigating.”

Marlborough Police believe it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the surrounding community. However, there was a police presence at Sgt. Charles J. Jaworek Elementary School until the end of the school day, which is less than a mile away from the scene.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Marlborough Police Department at 508-485-1212.
