NORTHBOROUGH – The Algonquin Regional boys volleyball team defeated Fitchburg 3-0 in a matchup played on senior night, May 24.

Algonquin took three straight sets (25-8, 25-17 and 25-20) as they dispatched Fitchburg. At the conclusion of the game, the team’s four seniors, Abhinav Tripathi, Gabrielius Bazikas, Connor Powley and Bennett Lee, were honored for their contributions.

Algonquin improved to 4-2 on the season with the win.

Specifically, this shutout continued a three-game win streak in which Algonquin has not lost a single set.

After opening their season with a back and forth 1-2 record, the team has shut out Wachusett, Marlborough and now Fitchburg, respectively.

Though gameplay and gameday atmospheres are slowly returning to normal, the sports season remains shortened due to the MIAA’s scheduling an extra Fall II season earlier this year.

Algonquin is wrapping up its schedule as the Boys Volleyball team will now hit the court twice more in the regular season.

They play Milford on Monday, May 31, before heading to Marlborough on Thursday, June 3.

“Thank you, Seniors!” Algonquin Athletic Director Michael Mocerino tweeted after this May 24 volleyball victory.
