Robert H. HathawayMarlborough – Robert “Bob” H. Hathaway, 77 died on May 30, 2021 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester after a lengthy illness.

Bob was born in Newton, the son of the late Howard C. and Edith (O’Dowd) Hathaway. He was employed by Raytheon Corp. for 47 years working as a Millwright, retiring in 2012.

Bob served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam and was Honorably discharged.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne (Mikula) Hathaway; a daughter, Sharon Harris and her husband Brian of Hopkinton; a son, Bob Hathaway and his wife Laura of Norton; four grandchildren, Reid, Hayley, Emily, and Jessica; a sister, Joan Buchan and her husband Buck of Ashland; and his sister-in-law, Janice Hathaway of Holliston, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard Hathaway, in 2015.

For over 40 years, Bob coached Marlborough Youth Baseball and Senior Babe Ruth. He was a member of Eastern MA Umpire’s Association for 50 years. He played professional baseball for the Cincinnati Reds Organization from 1962-1964 and was a N.E. Patriots season ticket holder since 1968.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 4, at 11 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 3, from 5-8 p.m., in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough.
