Daniel J. Moynihan Jr.Shrewsbury – Daniel J. “Dan” Moynihan Jr., 79, of Shrewsbury, former Assistant Executive Director of the Worcester Housing Authority, died on Dec. 14, 2020 after a brief illness.

He leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Jane C. (Carrigan) Moynihan; their children, Daniel Moynihan and his wife Kathleen of Needham and Beth (Moynihan) Foley of Austin, Texas; their son-in-law, James Wilson; and their grandchildren, Timothy Moynihan, of Washington, D.C., Peter Moynihan, Charlotte Moynihan, both of Needham, Matthew Wilson of Boston, Lily Wilson of Westborough, and Patrick Foley of Austin, Texas. Along with his parents, the late Daniel J. Moynihan Sr. and Mary (Ford) Moynihan, Dan was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Lynne (Moynihan) Wilson; his son-in-law, Richard Foley; and his siblings, Thomas, Francis, and Mary Moynihan.

Born, raised, and educated in Worcester, Dan was a member of the Navy ROTC program at the College of the Holy Cross and graduated with his B.A. in 1964. Following his graduation from Holy Cross, he began his service in the Navy and proudly served his country for many years, in both active duty and reserve. Dan achieved his Master’s in Social Work in 1966 from Boston College School of Social Work. He retired after a lengthy career in the Worcester Housing Authority, and retired as a Captain in the U.S.N.R.

He was proud of his Irish heritage and loved anything pertaining to Ireland. Dan was an avid reader and known history buff. Dan enjoyed travelling throughout New England, especially to Newport, Rhode Island and Ogunquit, Maine.

Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Dan’s life on Friday, June 18 in St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
