Man arrested in connection with Marlborough rail trail assault

MARLBOROUGH – Police arrested a 35-year-old man, June 7, in connection with an alleged assault on the Assabet River Rail Trail in town hours earlier.

Marlborough Police Department spokesperson Zachary Attaway shared a press release just before 10:30pm showing a mugshot of a man named Johnathan Parker.

“Arrest made,” his statement read.

The incident in question first came to light at 2:12pm when police shared video of a man running down the rail trail toward’s its intersection with Fitchburg St. in the general area of Assabet High School.

According to police, a victim had been walking along the trail when this man allegedly “grabbed her around the neck and pushed her onto the ground toward the shoulder of the rail trail.”

“The victim screamed loudly and fought to defend herself as the suspect tried to pull off some of her clothing,” police added. “The victim was able to break free from the suspect who then turned and ran in the opposite direction.”

The victim suffered minor injuries to her mouth and leg police said.

The victim in this situation also captured video of her alleged assailant. That footage, in turn, was widely shared across social media as police asked for help in tracking down their suspect.

Around 6:30pm, police got new pictures showing more of the man’s face.

Later in the evening, they announced they had made an arrest.
