MARLBOROUGH – Marlborough’s “Stop the Spread” COVID-19 testing facility moved to Marlborough Hospital effective June 1.

Announced via a press release on May 27, the move came after weeks of hinting from officials that the operation at the New England Sports Center in town was winding down.

“COVID-19 testing is now available at Marlborough Hospital,” the hospital confirmed on its Facebook page. “Testing will NO LONGER be available at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough.”

Coronavirus testing existed as a primary challenge for public health experts through much of last year.

With smaller operations running tests out of local clinics, the area then got a boost in the fall through the state’s Stop the Spread Initiative.

Marlborough Hospital administered a sprawling operation based in the parking lot of the New England Sports Center off Donald Lynch Boulevard.

With lines at times snaking around the gargantuan hockey complex, that site processed thousands of tests administered to patients who drove up in their cars.

Launched with an open-ended future, the New England Sports Center site persisted as other large-scale testing locations in Framingham and Worcester consolidated.

With testing volumes now falling off, though, the site had seen less traffic, allowing for consolidation to Marlborough Hospital.

Testing will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hours, though, are subject to change.
