Algonquin lacrosse defeats Shrewsbury in thriller
Algonquin’s Charlie David celebrates with teammate Chris Carreras after scoring the game winning goal with 6.3 seconds left on the clock.

NORTHBOROUGH – Algonquin Regional High School defeated Shrewsbury 11-10 in a thrilling Central Mass. Athletic Directors Association semifinal playoff game held June 12.

Algonquin jumped out to an early two goal lead in the opening minutes.

From there, both teams battled evenly, with Algonquin holding on to a one to two goal lead at points into the fourth quarter.

With a late surge, though, Shrewsbury took a 9-8 lead with 6:55 remaining in the game.  Feeling pressure from their opponents and with the game tied at 10-10, Algonquin took the victory with just 6.3 seconds left on the clock thanks to a Charlie David shot.

David scored five goals for Algonquin, including the game winner, with Chris Carreras scoring three.

Brady Soldo and Cam MacDonald had three goals apiece for Shrewsbury.

With the win, Algonquin advanced to play in the finals on Tuesday, June 15 against Grafton. That game was postponed and will now take place on June 16 at 7:30pm.
