WESTBOROUGH – Boy Scout Troop 4 from Ray Stone Post in Shrewsbury has recently focused its attention on a series of service projects at the Westborough Food Pantry.

Since January, scouts have organized boxes of thousands of pounds of food and toiletries. They have also helped move large boxes to make room for a pantry repainting project.

“These projects instill in the scouts to donate their time and work together for a good cause,” Scout Service Coordinator David Lowy said of the recent work.

As COVID-19 restrictions have lifted, the scouts of Troop 4 have enjoyed more time together.

They held a fishing derby on May 13. Later this month, they’ll be celebrating the elevation of five troop members to the prestigious Eagle Scout rank via a court of honor ceremony.

There have, likewise, been more opportunities for group community service efforts that had been limited and, in some cases, postponed due to the virus’s impacts in earlier months.

“Many hands make light work!” Lowy remarked on the guiding principle of service work in general.
