NORTHBOROUGH – The top-seeded Algonquin Regional High School girls lacrosse team defeated eighth-seeded Shrewsbury by a score of 13-11 in an MIAA Central/West Division 1 quarterfinal playoff game held June 21.

Algonquin jumped out to a strong 9-4 lead at halftime, but Shrewsbury continued to battle and chip away at the lead, closing the gap to 11-10 with four minutes remaining in the game. However, Algonquin scored two quick goals in the closing minutes to preserve the win.

Lucy Rogers led the offense with seven goals for Algonquin, while Ava Wilde added three.  Holly Hruskoci was Shrewsbury’s top scorer, with six goals.

Algonquin hosted Longmeadow in the semi-finals on June 23, losing that game by a score of 13-4.
