American Heritage museum to host WWII tank demonstrations
The American Heritage Museum will showcase tanks including the M4 Sherman, M24 Chaffee, M26 Pershing, M5 Stuart, German Stug III and more on July 10 and 11.

HUDSON – The American Heritage Museum will feature WWII tanks operating in a series of demonstrations with accompanying historical narration on Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11.

Among other tanks, this weekend event will feature the rare Russian SU-100, of which there are just two on display in North America. 

WWII veterans will participate in the exhibition just as all three museums on the property will be open. 

Among those veterans potentially appearing is Sherman tank gunner Alfred Consigli and B-17 pilot Bill Purple. As noted in a Heritage Museum press release, Consigli was part of General George Patton’s 774th “Black Cat” brigade. Purple was a B-17 Flying Fortress lead pilot who flew with the 8th Air Force, 379th Bomb Group.

“Mr. Purple has captivating stories leading hundreds of bombers on perilous missions over Berlin,” that press release explained. “Keep in mind, with the guys being over 97 yrs. old, their schedule will remain flexible up to the weekend.”

Tank Driving Experiences and Tank Rides will be available in the M4 Sherman and M24 Chaffee through the weekend.

Admission costs $25 for adults, $20 for seniors/veterans, and $15 for children under 12 years old. WWII/Korean War veterans and children under 3 are Free.
