Hudson – Leonard P. Cunningham Sr., “Len,” 92 of Hudson passed away peacefully on July 5, 2021 at home, surrounded by family. Len was a devoted and caring family man.
He was predeceased by Phyllis, his cherished wife of 32 years, with whom he raised six children. He was the loving father of Deidre Kennedy and her husband Tim, Len Cunningham and his wife Barbara, Sharon Jesser and her husband Dave, Paul Cunningham and Brenda McKeon, Alison O’Hare and her husband Michael, and Stephanie Thompson and her husband Jim. He is survived by his 15 grandchildren, Michael and Hannah Kennedy, Alexandra and Joseph Cunningham, Caitlin Parker and her husband Corey, Matt, Bridget and John Jesser, Mary and Ian Cunningham, Thomas and Grace O’Hare, Sean, Emma and Mary Kate Thompson, and his great-grandson, Grayson Parker. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Born in Charlestown, Len was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Cunningham, and the brother of the late Joseph and Thomas Cunningham and Jeane Sottile. He grew up in Charlestown, and later Wilmington where he graduated from Wilmington High School in 1946. He was very proud to have served in the U.S. Navy.
Len was a graduate of Boston College where he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management with a minor in Philosophy in 1958 and an MBA in 1965.
He worked industriously as a Manager of Production Planning at Raytheon Company for 34 years. He had a passion for learning; and, after retiring, he participated, for fun, in classes studying everything from law to quantum physics.
Len lived a full life spending many wonderful years with his large family of which he was so proud. He enjoyed vacationing with them on the Cape and in Vermont.
He credits his long life to his dedication to exercise; he reaped the benefits of many years of running, swimming, and Tai chi. He is well known for his great sense of humor and wit. He will be deeply missed.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 8, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson, followed by a procession to Saint Michael’s Cemetery for burial. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Len’s name to the Hudson Food Pantry.
