Dean L. AndersonWest Boylston – Dean L. Anderson, 87, of West Boylston and formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2021, with his loving family by his side.

He leaves his beloved wife, Cecile S. (LaBrie) Anderson, with whom he recently celebrated 63 years of marriage; his children, Larry D. Anderson of Worcester, and Donna M. (Anderson) Lazarte and her husband Robert of Fleming Island, FL; his grandchildren, Justin and Bryan Fugere of Florida, Gregory Dean Anderson of Somerset, and Nora Anderson Bezerra of Colorado; a great-granddaughter, Isla M. Fugere; his brother, Adrian Anderson, of Tipp City, OH; along with several nieces and nephews. Dean was predeceased by his son, Steven M. Anderson; his parents, Rex E. Anderson and Hazel T. (Ingle) Anderson; and his siblings, Paul, Arthur, Mark, and E. Jeanne.

Dean was born and raised in Dayton, OH, and was a graduate of Clark University in Worcester. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving his country proudly; he was later honorably discharged in 1957. He was a Past Grand Knight in the Shrewsbury Knights of Columbus – Adelphi Council #4181, and was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Saint Mary of the Hills Church in Boylston. He loved to play cards at the Shrewsbury and West Boylston Senior Centers, and also played bridge with the Cavandish Club. Dean had a lengthy career of almost thirty years at Norton Company where he worked as Manager of Risk Insurance, before retiring in 1987. He also worked as an instructor in Accounting at Quinsigamond Community College in the evening division for 12 years.

In his younger days, he enjoyed photography at Dayton Speedway and later went on to own a summer family concession business that operated at several local speedways, including Westborough, Thompson, and Seekonk. Dean also co-owned the former Mister Donut on Park Avenue in Worcester. Dean and Cecile loved travelling, enjoying sixteen spectacular cruises, and exploring the U.S. and Europe together. Most recently, they enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Donna. Dean loved camping, and even purchased a motor home to take his grandkids on camping trips together.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Anderson family between 9:30 and 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross St., Boylston, followed by the funeral Mass at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will then be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. The BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
