HUDSON – Like some other parts of Hudson, the 92 unit, town-managed Norma Oliver Village was without power as of 12:45 p.m. on June 29, according to Hudson Housing Authority executive director Jaclyn Beaulieu.

The outage coincided with the severe heat wave that hit the region last month.

“We got several calls to our office from residents about the power,” Beaulieu told Housing Authority Board members at their July 8 meeting.

A small emergency generator was operational within 25 minutes and was able to power the Community Center’s main air conditioner. A second, backup air conditioner was available but not required.

Between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m., word spread through town that the power was coming back on.

Center staff considered, but ultimately decided against, knocking on resident doors to alert them of the situation, Beaulieu said.

“Nice job,” said Housing Authority Vice Chairman Anne Marie Lourens. “You don’t want to alarm people.”

Citizen Mary Lou McKeone, however, criticized that decision.

“There are people who are on oxygen who need to be notified immediately,” she told the board.

Beaulieu replied, “If the power had not come on by the time we were closing and leaving our office, we would not have left.”

Beaulieu also praised her staff for their timely response.

Alongside the Brigham Circle complex, Norma Oliver Village is one of two housing properties managed by the Hudson Housing Authority. It is located at 4 Glenn Road, off Laurel Drive.
