Peter J. CollinsMarlborough – Peter J. Collins, 58, died suddenly on Aug. 1, 2021, at Jolly Roger moto-sports track of an apparent heart attack.

From a young age, Peter was interested in motorcycles, and won the 6th grade science fair by disassembling and reassembling an entire motorcycle. Peter graduated from Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, and operated his own motorcycle and snowmobile repair business, Pete’s Cycle & Sled, in Marlborough.

He especially enjoyed dirt bikes and motocross racing, which he did for several decades. He soon had too many trophies to keep at home, so he gave them away to kids at the track.

Peter was known for his no-nonsense, straightforward demeanor and sharp wit. He exercised regularly and liked to go snowmobiling and snowboarding. His generous spirit continues to help others through organ donation.

He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Valerie Rushanan of Bedford; Jennifer Thorson of Highland Beach, Fla.; Joel Collins of Marlborough; and Marjorie Collins of Stuart, Fla., as well as aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Carney, whom he lovingly took care of for years, as she had Alzheimer’s disease. Peter was not married and did not have any children, but had many racing friends and mentored lots of kids. He had quite a following at the track.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, Aug. 9, from 4-6 p.m., at Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough.
