William H. HillerstromShrewsbury – William H. Hillerstrom, 90, passed away on Aug. 9, 2021 at Rose Monahan Hospice House after an illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Gloria A. (Phenix) Hillerstrom.

His is survived by his two daughters, Karen Bastien and her husband Todd Paget of Fall River and Diane Papoojian and her husband Phil of Ashburnham; one son, Barry W. Hillerstrom and his wife Lamia of North Grafton; eight grandchildren, Michael and his wife Michelle, Jason and his wife Regina, Alex, Sarah and her partner Paul, Nick, Mariam, Adam and Sofia; three great-grandchildren, Jason, Victoria and Will; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was born and raised in Worcester (Belmont Hill) and was the only child of the late Harry and Helmy (Carlson) Hillerstrom. He graduated from Commerce High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and worked for 44 years as an Emergency Lineman for Mass Electric, retiring in 1994. He resided in Shrewsbury for 60 years.

Bill was an avid, competitive and accomplished golfer and played into his 80’s. He won local club championships at Juniper Hill and Clearview Country Club, and still holds the course record with a score of 62 at Pine Ridge County Club. He played and competed often not just locally but at all Cape Cod courses as well as many down south. He loved all sports, especially the Patriots and Red Sox.

What Bill loved most was the time spent with his beloved grandchildren, and along with his wife Gloria, spent much of his time attending basketball, football, baseball and lacrosse games. He rarely missed a game or the chance to see his grandchildren play. Their “Pa” was always in the stands.

Bill and Gloria travelled often with family and friends, but enjoyed most the trips to Disney World with grandchildren and the many summers spent at the family home in West Hyannisport.

Bill had a big heart and a big personality. Those who knew him all have a “Bill Hillerstrom” story.

He lived his life passionately and was the true patriarch of the family. He was loved and will be missed beyond words.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and thank you the VNA Hospice.
