77-year-old man injured in Shrewsbury accident

SHREWSBURY — A 77-year-old man was injured in an accident on Route 9 in Shrewsbury on Aug. 27. 

The accident is still under investigation according to Shrewsbury Police spokesperson Lt. Nick Perna. 

Perna told the Community Advocate that the victim was a 77-year-old man who was on a motorized scooter. 

Shrewsbury officers, firefighters and Worcester EMS responded near the 400 block of Route 9 east just after 11 a.m on Aug. 27. 

According to Perna, the man was transported to UMass hospital for the treatment of his injuries. 

That morning, the police closed a portion of Route 9 near Oak Street down to one lane of traffic as the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council traffic reconstruction team conducted an investigation.

The Shrewsbury Police Department advised drivers to seek other routes and use caution while driving in the area.

By noon, the road was reopened.
