MARLBOROUGH – A developer wants to build two drive-through facilities for a new Starbucks location and a bank for the Wayside Crossing plaza at 661 Boston Post Rd. East in Marlborough, according to a special permit application submitted to the City Council this month.
The application, submitted by attorney Brian Falk on behalf of Aubuchon Realty Co., is
necessary due to the requirement of a special permit for drive-throughs in Marlborough.
“Because the site is located in the Wayside Zoning District, the City Council serves as the site plan approval authority for the project,” wrote Falk in a letter to the Council dated Sept. 8. “We will be submitting a site plan approval application in the coming days so that the Council may review both applications concurrently.”
The letter also says that there will be another new retail tenant. The Starbucks will have a dedicated drive-through lane, while the bank will have two additional drive-through lanes.
Falk wrote that this project would add 18 parking spaces at the plaza, increasing its total from 48 spaces to 66. The project would also include landscaping and pedestrian and bicycle use upgrades as required of projects in the Wayside Zoning District.
Falk wrote that pre-existing uses at the plaza will not be changed.
Starbucks already has four locations in Marlborough, including one just a few hundred feet from this proposed site according to Starbucks’ store locator. That location sits inside the Target store at 605 Boston Post Rd. East.
Starbucks’ one other in-store location is across town at the Target store on Donald Lynch Blvd.
A downtown location recently relocated from its longtime home at 23 Weed St. to a new
location a few blocks away at 137 South Bolton St. Yet another location operates at 90 Apex Dr.
