Donald L. MahanWestborough – Donald Lawson Mahan 91, of Westboro, MA, slipped away to be with the Lord on Sunday September 26, 2021. Born in Clinton Massachusetts, he was the son of Clarence and Elsie (Wright) Mahan and was educated in the Clinton Public Schools.

Don served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a longtime crane operator for Operating Engineers. In 2012 he was honored by Union Local 4 with 50 years of good standing and unbroken service in his membership. He was also a member of the Dutch Rabbit Association.

Don was stationed in many states while serving in the Air Force which started a lifelong love of traveling, especially to Florida and Alaska. He also loved Vermont where he and Barbara set their RV upon the banks of the West River. They enjoyed attending fairs, church suppers, and flea markets and had a great love of horses, reading and gardening.  His green thumb reached all the way to his shoulder and his raspberry and asparagus patches were to be envied. Don loved heavy equipment and Ford trucks, a passion shared by his great grandson, Walt. They spent many happy hours playing “trucks” together.

Donald was blessed to have found love twice in his life, having remarried at age 86.  He is survived by this special angel, Judith F (Coldwell) Mahan. Don is also survived by four children, Donna Brooks of Canaan, NH, Cheryl Dion and husband John of Sutton, MA, Michael Mahan and wife Betsy of Millbury, MA, Brian Mahan of Randolph, VT, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 65 years, Barbara (Mainville) Mahan, his brother C. Stanley Mahan and his son in law Richard R. Brooks.

Services will be private at the family’s convenience.

Donations in his name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Westboro Senior Center for their many years of love, support and caring.

Grandpa will be missed terribly but will be remembered fondly for his sharp wit, impish grin and the perpetual twinkle in his eye.
