HUDSON – Hudson has a chance to win $25,000 through a national “Main Streets” contest.

Now, community leaders are asking individuals to vote to advance the town to the next round.

The contest is run by Independent We Stand, which describes itself as a “movement of independent business owners across the country to inform their communities about the importance of ‘Buying Local’ and how these efforts bolster their local economy.”

This year, their America’s Main Street contest is entitled “Road to Recovery.”

“Independent We Stand wants to help locally-owned businesses not just survive the pandemic, but thrive in their communities,” said co-founder Bill Brunelle.

Hudson and Essex Street in Salem are the two Massachusetts nominees vying for the grand prize of $25,000 in addition to shopping sprees and a certificate for $1,000 of equipment from STIHL, which is presenting the contest.

Hudson plans to use any winnings to increase the cultural footprint of its downtown district.

“We need your vote!” wrote Downtown Business Improvement District President Arthur Redding in a press release. “Hudson’s residents have worked hard to completely transform our downtown, and together we can get it recognized as America’s greatest Main Street!”

Individuals can vote online at https://mainstreetcontest.com/ through Sunday, Nov. 7. Semifinalist voting will begin at that point, and a winner will be announced on Monday, Dec. 20.
