Domenic J. MatteroShrewsbury – Domenic J. Mattero, 61, a lifelong resident of Shrewsbury and devoted husband, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly after being stricken ill, Thursday, October 28, 2021, while vacationing in Florida.

Domenic was born October 23, 1960, in Worcester, the son of Anthony and Antoinette (DiPrato) Mattero. He grew up in Shrewsbury, graduated from Shrewsbury High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in business/marketing from Northeastern. As a youth and student,  Domenic could be found assisting his parents and family at the former Mattero’s Bakery in Shrewsbury. Following graduation from Northeastern, Domenic began a life in the bank marketing industry,  in the senior management of several institutions, presently as Vice President for consumer products performance for Citizen’s bank.

Domenic is survived by the “love of his life” soulmate and best friend for the last 20 years, Cheryl A. (Hopkins) Mattero; a sister, Theresa M. Casson and her husband John of Enfield, CT; a brother, Anthony J. Mattero of West Palm Beach, Florida; his mother in law, Carol Hopkins; brother in law, Robert Hopkins and his wife Sharon all of Worcester; His Aunt, Anna Flaminio; Many extended family and many friends.

An enthusiastic golfer, Domenic was a member and constant presence at  Sterling National Country Club where he played in many tournaments the weekend sweeps and with his usual foursome of Frank, Mike and Tom. He has also played numerous rounds of golf anywhere he could or was asked to join. Notably over his career, Domenic recorded three holes in one. In his youth, Domenic was a standout, sportsman,  in winters playing hockey with friends and family on Jordan Pond in Shrewsbury, and baseball for all levels in Shrewsbury. In Domenic’s life nothing came before Cheryl. He cherished ever moment they were together; she was his life’s inspiration and light of his life. Domenic had a giant smile, huge heart, and excellent sense of humor, he enjoyed the holidays, special occasions and all the times he spent with Cheryl and his friends. His caring soul will be dearly missed.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 7, from 3 pm to 6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.  His funeral will be held, Monday, November 8th from the funeral home with a procession to St Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd where his celebration of Christian burial Mass will be held at 10 am. Burial will follow in Mt View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name can be made to the St Annes Church, human services, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd Shrewsbury.
