SHREWSBURY – Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) will soon install an electric vehicle charging station at Town Hall thanks to a $50,000 grant it received.

Specifically, SELCO plans to install a dual-port Level 2 electric vehicle charging station.

It comes after SELCO announced rebates on new or used electric vehicles.

According to a press release, this will be one of several public charging stations SELCO plans to deploy in 2022.

“Deployment of public EV charging stations supports SELCO’s overall strategic electrification and strategy,” said SELCO Director of Integrated Resources and Communications Jackie Pratt. “Plug-in electric vehicles offer significant environmental benefits and help EV owners save money on transportation costs.”

The grant was awarded through the Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program Public Access Charging Program.

Town Manager Kevin Mizikar announced the award during an Oct. 26 Board of Selectmen meeting.

He said the station will be placed along the municipal campus’ driveway, heading toward the Council on Aging area.

SELCO anticipates that this installation should be complete no later than the second quarter of 2022.
