Marlborough – In the words of a nurse at Worcester Memorial Hospital, our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend is a rich woman.

Janet Lynn Cassinelli (Slater), born in Ballston Spa, New York, in 1937, not only loved all those in her life, but she is also loved and cherished by them. Her unwavering love and caring for others started early with her choice to earn a nursing degree from St. Mary’s in Brooklyn, New York, and later work as an Emergency Room nurse, nurse supervisor, and administrator at Marlboro Hospital.

She and her husband created life-long memories for their family in a home filled with holiday and birthday traditions, trips and vacations, and children and grandchildren’s activities. They found time to make merry with their friends throughout those busy years and beyond, and none more than their traditional New Years’ Eve get-together complete with goofy hats and great food.

Janet, however, was also an adventurer and a life-long learner; she never stopped wanting to go to a museum, visit new places, eat new food, and meet new people. She did this on the back of a motorcycle with her husband and later in a camper. Together they motorcycled in every state, but one, and in the southern Canadian provinces, and even carried their camping gear for several years. They were able to take a motorcycle tour through Europe – twice! Traveling by camper later, they visited countless natural wonders, museums, restaurants and made many friends along the way.

In 2018, Janet, along with her two daughters and two granddaughters, took a tour of Poland to fulfill a wish to see the home of her mother’s ancestors. She never tired of learning about the old cities, visiting the soaring cathedrals, trying different Polish dishes and vodka, and talking with people she met. At home, Janet never tired of learning new recipes and trying them out on her not-too-food-adventurous husband.

Our adventurous life-long learner and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend gave the gift of her love that we carry out into the world, making all a bit richer.

Janet leaves behind her fellow lover of adventure and learning of 62 years Edgar Cassinelli, her daughters Laurie Cassinelli Cray and husband Bruce Cray, Debra Cassinelli and friend Roger Trabucco; grandchildren Tristan Cray and partner Amy Bergen, Ainsley Cray and partner Joe Pillar, Jacob Cassinell and fiance Erica Steinhauser, Devin Cassinelli and wife Kendra Cassinelli (Noll) and great-granddaughter daughter Harper Bella Cassinelli, Heidi Cray and partner Doug Graham, Trevor Cassinelli and wife Sarah Cassinelli (Corsini); brother John Howard Slater and wife Diane Slater; daughter-in-law Maggie Cassinelli; many nieces; countless dear friends; and of course, her little dog, Sam. Janet is preceded in death by her son David Allen Cassinelli, her mother Lucille Slater (Lidwika Czachur), and her father, Howard William Slater.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
