Robert L. ShafnerNorthborough – Robert L. Shafner, a longtime resident of Northborough and a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, after a period of declining health. Bob recently celebrated his 82nd birthday on November 25. Born and raised in Lynn, Mass, Bob was one of four sons to the late John Lloyd and Eleanor (Wright) Shafner.

Bob earned his Masters in Public Health from Boston University School of Medicine and worked his entire career in the health field. He was proud of his status as a registered nurse and the positive impact he made in healthcare management. Bob enjoyed golf, photography and for over 60 years, was an amateur radio operator. Bob excelled at communicating in Morse code; now he is a “silent key”.

Surviving Bob is his wife of 49 years, Beverly A. (Root) Shafner; two daughters, Aimee E. Shafner of Northborough, Patrice M. Field and her husband Peter of Hampstead, NH; his three brothers, Richard J. Shafner of Lynnfield, Alan L. Shafner of Bartlett, NH, and John L. Shafner of Florida; three grandchildren, Kara Field, Robert Field and Peter Field as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa A. Shafner.

A calling hour will be held from 9:30 – 10:30am on Friday, December 3, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Bob’s funeral will follow at 10:30am in the funeral home. Interment will take place in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough. The family requests that anyone attending the service is either vaccinated or wears a mask.

In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family requests that memorial donations be directed to the Friends of the Northborough Senior Center, 119 Bearfoot Road, Northborough, MA 01532.
