Herbert H. SwissShrewsbury – Herbert H. “Tim” Swiss, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 5, 2021, after a brief illness.

Tim was born in Saginaw, MI to Herbert and Evelyn (Hunt) Swiss. He graduated from Mount St. Michael High School in New York before joining the Navy during the Korean war. He then had a long career in the cement industry that included working as both a sales representative and manager.

Tim retired from The Lehigh Cement Company in 1995 after having served as a board member of the New England Concrete Masonry Association where he was recognized as a member of their Hall of Fame.

He then spent his time volunteering at the Shrewsbury Senior Center and was elected to the Council on Aging, where he was for a time, the Board Chairman. A longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he served at one point as Senior Warden.

Tim was an avid golfer who belonged to Worcester Country Club for many years. He was especially proud of his two “holes in one” and winning the 1995 Senior Cup.

Tim was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Carol J. (Buckley) Swiss. He is survived by his children, Steven Swiss and his wife Kathryn of Wilmington NC, Theodore “Ted” Swiss and his wife Victoria of East Providence, RI, and Catherine Gilmore and her husband John of Glen Ridge, NJ as well as 8 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 10:00 – 11:45 am at Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury. Tim’s funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 440 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Interment Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tim’s honor to the Shrewsbury Council on Aging, 98 Maple Ave, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
