REGION – The Algonquin High School boys hockey team ran away with a dominant 8-1 victory over Westborough, Wednesday night, notching a win in the semifinals of this year’s Borough’s Cup tournament at the Northstar Ice Sports in Westborough.
Jaiden Wilde led the way for Algonquin, notching a hat trick in the victory.
It all started, though, as Algonquin came back after Westborough scored the game’s first goal.
Ben Cotter slammed a bouncing puck past Westborough’s defense and goaltender to send the teams to the first intermission tied 1-1.
Algonquin turned a penalty kill at the start of the second period into offensive momentum, scoring off a turnover to take a 2-1 lead.
The team expanded the lead from there, tacking on two more goals before the second intermission. Ryan Magaletta and Wilde then combined to add four goals in the third period.
This win continues an explosive start to the season for Algonquin, which beat Hudson 5-1 on Dec. 11.
They’ll now face Marlborough in the Borough’s Cup championship on Saturday, Dec. 18.
