Antonio Sousa BairosFairhaven – “Tony” Sousa Bairos, 78, of Fairhaven, MA, formerly of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at The University of Miami Medical Center in Florida, with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Lucia Bairos.

Antonio was born on August 21, 1943 on the island of Santa Maria, Azores Portugal, a son of the late Manuel and Maria Bairos. Tony was raised in Santa Maria, where he married the love of his life Lucy on May 11, 1970. Together, Tony and his wife  immigrated to the United States, settling in the Town of Hudson. Recently, they have split their time residing between their homes in South Florida and Fairhaven, however Tony’s heart has always remained in Hudson, where he spent the majority of his life and watched his family grow and flourish.

Tony had a long and successful career working for over 30 years at S&F Concrete in Hudson. In his tenure there he was the project manager at several projects throughout the Boston area and was most proud of his work overseeing the build of Gillette Stadium. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. Tony was also a skilled handyman, who was nicknamed “MacGyver” by those who loved him, because of his ingenuity to fix anything with either anything or everything.  He loved to watch sports and was a consummate Boston sports Fan. Tony was a committed Bruins fan from the days of  Orr to those of Chara. Often found sporting his Red Sox hat and touting the praise of the Pats!

Tony took his role as a father to new heights.  As a dad he promoted independence, self-reliance, ambition and competition.  As a grandfather he was committed to keeping a laugh on his grandson’s faces and cheering them on at every sporting event including  trips to the  National Tournament in Cooperstown NY. He was always proud to point out he was a UCONN, Northeastern, Babson Dad and a WPI & Bryant Grandparent! Tony was loved by everyone and served as a godfather to many nieces and nephews.

Tony leaves behind many heartbroken survivor including his wife, Lucia Bairos; his two daughters, Teresa Bairos, Delia Gardner and her husband Sean as well as his beloved grandsons, Jared Gardner and Brady Gardner; his siblings, Altina Moura and her husband José Manuel, David Bairos and his wife Margarida, Diamantina Braga and her husband Antonio, Jose Bairos and his wife Zenalia, Rosa Bairos and Idalina Andrade. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by his brother Dinis Bairos.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 5-8pm on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St. Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on December 29, 2021, 9am at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery.
