Kay E. TedfordNorthborough – Kay Elizabeth Tedford passed away peacefully in her beloved home on Tuesday morning, December 21, 2021; she was 83 years old. Kay was born and raised in Manchester, CT, one of four children to the late John G. and Janie K. (Harris) Stoutnar.

Kay and Bruce were married in 1958. In October of this year the couple celebrated their 63rd year of marriage. In 1966 Kay and Bruce moved to their current residence in Northborough.

A testament to her strong will and independent ways, Kay effectively cared for her children and the household during Bruce’s extended work travel requirements. She was a devoted mother and wife who put her own needs behind those of her family. In earlier years, Kay taught Sunday School, was a former member of the Eastern Star and served as a den mother to local Cub Scout packs. She was well known as the go-to person should you have a hurt or lost animal or reptile to care for.

For several years she worked at the former Quality Catering of Northborough. Prior to a decline in health, Kay enjoyed participating in the Town and Country league bowling and created many knitted projects for friends and family. Together with Bruce, Kay enjoyed traveling. A highlight was a trip she took alone to Oxford, England to meet with the John Thaw Fan Club.

In addition to her husband, Kay is survived by a son, Raymond S. Tedford; Daughter-in-law Desiree Tedford; 5 grandchildren Katherine Tedford and her wife Danielle Tedford, Joshua Tedford, Aaron Keith Melton, Dusten G. Stewart and Jeffrey A. Tedford; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister Nancy Walters; her brother John Stoutnar and several nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey B. Tedford (May 2021) and by her brother Robert Stoutnar (November 2021).

A time of visitation with Kay’s family will occur between 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A Memorial service in the funeral home will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m. Please plan to wear a mask while inside.
