HUDSON – Volunteers for this season’s 32nd annual Home Alone for the Holidays program of Hudson AMVETS Post 208 prepared and delivered over 1,000 dinners.
The special deliveries went to area residents who otherwise might not have observed Thanksgiving or Christmas with a traditional holiday meal.
On Christmas Day, Saturday, volunteers followed a well-organized assembly line to package 471 hot ham dinners while others delivered the dinners from the AMVETS post on South Street in Hudson.
Combined with Thanksgiving’s 580 hot turkey dinners, a total of 1,051 meals were delivered this season.
Among the dinner recipients were residents of senior housing complexes in Hudson and Marlborough.
Additionally, holiday meals were brought to first responders such as police and firefighters in 10 communities including Hudson, Marlborough, Northborough and Southborough. Also presented with dinners were employees of Marlborough’s Reservoir Center for Health & Rehabilitation.
Volunteers included AMVETS members, other veterans, Sons of AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary, Boy Scouts and cadets of the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School. Other concerned residents also joined them.
Mike Geary has served as the Home Alone chair since 2015.
Food for the Home Alone program is donated or purchased with monetary donations from businesses, nonprofits and individuals. This season’s major donors were Hudson Lock LLC, Hudson Fraternal Order of Eagles 643 and Native Sun.
