NorthboroughNORTHBOROUGH – Substitute trash truck drivers working amid COVID-19-induced staffing issues have missed “a significant number of customers” in Northborough over the last two weeks.

That’s according to a town announcement sent to community members early Sunday afternoon.

“Republic Services apologizes for any inconvenience and will do their best to rectify the situation in a timely manner,” the town noted in that announcement. “Thank you for your continued patience.”

The recent surge in COVID-19 cases has prompted widespread staffing shortages across industries in recent weeks.

Northborough’s trash and recycling contractor, Republic, saw its own shortages and has utilized substitute drivers to fill the gaps.

“Although many missed collections were recovered [on] Saturday 1/8, we are aware that many others were not,” the town wrote on Sunday, addressing the recent missed collections.

Northborough is asking residents who utilize pay-as-you-throw services and had their collection missed to notify town staff.

“We will compile an updated list for Republic and ensure those outstanding collections are recovered on Monday January 10th,” the town’s announcement noted.

Community members are asked to email [email protected].ma.us or call either 508-393-5001 or 508-393-5015 to report a missed collection.

Those reaching out should include their address and information on what type of collection was missed.
