UPDATE: This story has been updated with new information from SELCO and Shrewsbury Police Department.

SHREWSBURY – Shrewsbury Police Department said no one was transported to the hospital following a crash between a bus and a full size pick up truck pulling a large trailer yesterday afternoon.

“The pickup did strike the bus and also a utility pole,” Lt. Nicholas Perna told the Community Advocate.

The bus was empty at the time of the crash, which took place at the intersection of Route 20 and Green and South streets.

“Thankfully the bus driver was not injured,” Shrewsbury Public Schools wrote in a message to school community members shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Photos showed first responders on scene shortly before 3 p.m.

According to Perna, the State Police Truck Team was called out and is assisting with the investigation of the accident.

Bus 10 was involved after middle school students had been dropped off. Another bus was dispatched to finish the Bus 10 route from Beal Elementary School, according to the district.

SELCO posted information on its Facebook page at 3:49 p.m. yesterday showing additional photos of a pole damaged in this accident.

On Friday morning, SELCO added in an update that  that crews would be working throughout the day to complete repairs from the accident.

It’s “a complex pole with several circuits,” SELCO said, adding that personnel will be switching circuits to avoid disrupting service for customers during this repair work.

“Residents may want to avoid the area while this work is ongoing as traffic may be impacted,” SELCO said.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as additional information becomes available…
