Margaret A. AlexanderShrewsbury – Margaret A. (Carroll) Alexander, 91, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Dodge Park Rest Home. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, George O. Alexander; her daughters, Patricia Soderlund and Georgia Boeklan; her son-in-law, Michael Neely; her sisters, Sally, Gloria, and Virginia; her brother, Charles; and their parents, Sloan N. and Esther M. (Pierce) Carroll.

She leaves her devoted children, James Alexander and his wife Margaret, of Stanley, NC, William Mawdsley and his wife Kelley, of East Sandwich, Wayne Mawdsley and his wife Patti, of Chiefland, FL, and Elaine Derry-Neely, of Charlton; twenty grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Born in Queens, New York, Margaret and her family moved to New England and settled in Shrewsbury, where she graduated from Major Howard W. Beal High School. She became a loving wife and mother to George and the kids. She was a homemaker when her children were young and later entered the work force – becoming a dedicated member of the former Orlando Market family in Shrewsbury. She adored her grandchildren and was always very active in their lives, and especially enjoyed hosting their pool parties. Margaret also cherished her dog, Denny.

In her free time, Margaret loved to crochet and bake: she was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, red velvet cakes, and popcorn balls.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org/donate).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Alexander family from 9:30 – 11 AM on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, with a service celebrating her life at 11. Masks will kindly be required within the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
