NORTHBOROUGH – Drone photography last month captured an aerial view of Assabet Park in Northborough, showcasing recent work to complete renovations at that facility.

The park, which is located at the corner of Gale Street and South Street just outside of downtown Northborough, has been closed since September of last year.

Contractors have been on site in the meantime as Northborough awaits the completion of a new playground.

Speaking back in September, town officials said this project would involve grading and demolition efforts at the park.

New play equipment would be installed alongside a new rubberized play surface.

The old playground was over 20 years old when this project kicked off.

It, additionally, was not accessible under the terms of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“We decided that we need to have one put in that is user-friendly for everyone,” Recreation Director Allie Lane wrote in an email to the Community Advocate last year.

Work continues with a mix of funding from Northborough’s Community Preservation Committee and other town sources.
