Anna I. GuarinoHudson – Anna I. Guarino, age 104, lifelong resident of Hudson, passed at home with her son at her side after a period of declining health.

Anna was born in Milford, MA, daughter of the late Antonio Santos Rafael and his wife Maria Augusta Gomes. She was raised in Hudson, MA attending local schools.

A hard worker all her life, she started in the work force early to help support her family.

She was an excellent seamstress who made most all of her clothing. Her passion for sewing included most anything requiring needle and thread. She loved her hobbies which included painting, clay and pottery, stained glass, quilting and gardening. Many a spring, summer and fall day she could be found outside moving soil and planting. She never minded getting dirt underneath her fingernails.

Upon retirement she was an avid traveler having visited over 18 countries. Her strong faith in God and the Blessed Virgin Mary took her on many pilgrimages to the places the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared.

She also did a lot of local community work. She delivered food for meals on wheels, was very active with the churches Ladies Sodality both at the former Christ King Church and also St. Michael’s. Few things got her motivated more than helping with a church supper or with a bake sale. She loved working at the church. She took care of the alter cloth and preparations for the masses. She also made banners often displayed at church. Holiday season was a favorite. She set up the creche, ordered and arranged the flowers.

She was an excellent cook and baker, learning Portuguese cooking from her mother and Italian cooking from her mother-in-law Lucia. Nothing store bought for her, always fresh prepared.

She was predeceased by her husband Antonio in 1979 and leaves her son Michael from Hudson. She also leaves her three nieces, Julia, Belita and Ana in Portugal and nephew Richard Santos and his wife Ellie from W. Boylston, MA.
