REGION – The majority of area schools will be opening late today due to the lingering effects of snow this weekend.

Dubbed a “a long duration, light snowfall event” by National Weather Service forecasters, this system had dumped several inches of precipitation across the region as of this morning.

Snowflakes were lingering in some places as local crews worked to clear roads.

“Please drive carefully and be safe,” Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School wrote in its delay announcement.
