Albert D. Whitney Jr.Shrewsbury – Albert Daniel “Dan” Whitney, Jr., 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born in Worcester MA on December 22, 1930, to Albert and Gladys (Lovely) Whitney Sr.

Dan attended Worcester Public schools and graduated from Commerce High school and Worcester Junior College. He had a long career as a draftsman at Wyman Gordon Company in Grafton Ma before retiring in 1992. He would always smile broadly as he explained how much he enjoyed his 30 years of retirement.

Dan met the love of his life Katherine (Dube) whom he married on June 8, 1957. They had a full life full of laughter and love that included their four children.

Dan had a giving soul and was always accepting of both friends and strangers, always encouraging risk and growth in oneself. In success or in struggle, he encouraged and supported those around him. Dan’s happiest days were spent with family, outdoors digging in his garden or on walks where he always had pockets full of treats for the neighborhood dogs.

Dan was a season ticket holder for the New England Patriots since 1965 and some of his favorite memories were of taking his children and then later on his grandchildren to the stadium to tailgate and enjoy the game. Dan volunteered and coached many baseball teams in Shrewsbury and was honored to be the Grand Marshall in a Little league parade.

He grew up on Dawson Road where he met lifelong friends that remained his very best friends all the days of his life.

Dan’s love for his family was unwavering.

Dan leaves behind four children, Deborah Schuetz, Jean (Rich) McPherson, David (Laurie)Whitney and Lin Whitney, and his nine grandchildren: Derek, Lillian, Jacob, Daniel, Almicar, Haydn, Katherine, Matthew, and Rebecca. Dan was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Katherine L., his daughter Patricia, and his grandson Devin.

Dan was truly selfless and gave to others from a sincere and grateful heart. His legacy is the loving relationships he nurtured, and the love and support he gave to all.

Per Dan’s wishes, there will be no formal services but in the Spring his family will gather in his beloved gardens to celebrate and honor his life.

The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
