Rita A. SnellNorthborough – Rita A. Snell, a lifelong resident of Northborough, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, while surrounded by the love of her family, she was 88 years old.

Among those who survive Rita are her four children, Gerald L. Snell and his wife Angela of Shrewsbury, June E. Tidman and her husband Jon of Westborough, Jan M. O’Connor and her husband Michael of Shrewsbury and Jean A. Dargie and her husband Bernie of Tunbridge, VT. Rita also leaves 11 grandchildren, Ariana and Annika Snell, Nick, Matt, Lucas and Josh Tidman, Kerry Callahan, Korina and Shea O’Connor, Jennifer Evangelista and Chris Dargie, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ralph W. Snell and her three siblings, Walter J. Walsh, James M. Walsh and Theresa Ciprari.

Born and raised in Northborough, Rita was the daughter to the late Matthew J. and Corinne Walsh (née Gauvin). She was a 1952 graduate of Northborough H.S. and a lifetime member of Saint Rose of Lima Parish. She worked as a clerk for 26 years at the Big D Supermarket in Shrewsbury as well as many years at CVS of Northborough. Rita loved her family and looked forward to hosting Christmas Eve and following her grandchildren’s many events and hobbies.

She cherished the 20 years of summering in Dennis Port and relaxing while reading a good novel.

Calling hours will be held 9- 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Rita’s funeral will immediately follow in the funeral home. Rita will be laid to rest beside Ralph in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough.

The Snell family would like to thank the entire care team of Notre Dame Hospice, with special heartfelt appreciation to RN Kate B., RN Michael and SW Renee, for the kindness and compassion shown to Rita during her last days.
