Arlington/Grafton – John Francis, resident of Grafton, MA (formerly Arlington, MA) passed away peacefully at the age 91 on February 27, 2022.
John Francis was a decorated veteran, who had 3 Bronze Stars. He served in the Korean war and spent decades in service for the Department of Defense as a Contract Specialist until his retirement in 1994.
John Francis was born in Nisyros, Greece and emigrated to the United States at the age of 19. He was a proud Greek American that adored his family and in his younger days was an active volunteer at St. Athanasius Greek Orthodox Church in Arlington, MA.
John was a gentle husband, loving Papou to his grandchildren, an amazing father and passionate Boston sports fan.
John was predeceased by his first wife Martha Francis (Skountzou), brother Frank Francis, Son Constantine (Dean) Francis and Grandson Nektarios Fahey. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Joan Francis (Mikropoulou) his children Corinne Carroll (Thomas), Carol Francis, Anna Francis (Thomas Fahey), Paul Francis (Valeria), Maria McManus (James) and beloved grandchildren John, Christina, Thomas, JoAnna, Sophia, Alexander, Daniel, Robert and Gabriel.
All are welcome to gather with John’s family and friends Thursday March 3rd for calling hour at 10:00am at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church 34 Gold Street Shrewsbury, MA 01545 followed by his funeral service at 11am in the church. Burial will be private. The family asks that masks be worn during the visitation and funeral.
