Westborough launches home pickups of textiles

Westborough town iconWESTBOROUGH – Starting this month, Westborough residents are able to schedule a home pickup of clothing and household textiles.

The Health Department has partnered with HELPSY, which is a New York-based textile collection company that works with organizations and municipalities across 10 states, like Westborough.

According to HELPSY’s website, 95% of their collections are reused, upcycled or recycled. The company estimates that it has helped divert almost 30 million pounds of textiles from landfills last year through home pickups, clothing drives, thrift store partnerships and clothing receptacles.

Some of the items that HELPSY will accept include clothing and accessories — like shirts, pants, gloves, belts, ties and purses — and household items such as towels, bedding and throw rugs.

HELPSY will not accept breakable household items or glass, electronics, furniture, appliances, mattresses, scrap metal, building materials, encyclopedias, phone books or magazines.

The pickups will be available on a weekly basis. Westborough residents can schedule their pickups online at https://www.helpsy.co/westboroughma

Any clothing should be clean, dry, bagged and left by either the front door, driveway or by the mailbox before 7 a.m. on the morning of the pickup.

For more information about Westborough’s recycling programs, contact the Westborough Health Department at 508-366-3045.
