REGION – The Assabet boys hockey team saw its season come to a close on Saturday night with a 7-1 loss to Norwell on the road in Kingston, Massachusetts.

The game started with a 1-0 lead for Norwell in the first period. The Clippers then expanded their advantage in the second period, scoring five times to take a 6-0 lead.

Assabet and Norwell subsequently traded goals in the third period to seal the 7-1 final score.

The defeat came in the quarterfinals of this year’s MIAA Division IV boys hockey tournament, capping a season in which Assabet made a long awaited playoff run.

They kept their season alive in the Round of 32 with a thrilling 6-5, double overtime win over Saugus at home.

They then hit the road to defeat Ashland 5-3 at Loring Ice Arena in Framingham to earn a spot in the quarterfinals against Norwell.

Though the Aztecs now won’t be continuing their season, the school’s athletic department  Twitter account did share congratulations following this loss.

“Not the way we wanted our season to end but great run by [Aztec hockey],” that message noted. “Elite 8 is something to be proud of!”
