HUDSON – The Hudson Select Board said “no,” late last month, to a bid by Native Sun marijuana dispensary to move forward with an effort to add a medical marijuana operation in town.

Select Board members were asked to open the 2022 Annual Town Meeting Warrant to include a petitioned article to allow Native Sun Wellness to operate and receive deliveries for medical marijuana out of their existing location on Coolidge Street.

The petition mirrored the original petition the company filed to open its doors for recreational marijuana in November, 2020.

Select Board Member Shawn Sadowski expressed his concerns on opening the warrant, though.

“We were about to sign the warrant article tonight. I would hesitate to open this flood gate of petitioners coming in and wanting more,” he said.

Select Board Chair Scott Duplisea joined Sadowski and fellow Select Board member Michael Burks in voting against opening the warrant.

“This time, I believe it was a clerical error,” Duplisea said. “But if they did not get the application in time, I do not think it’s something to open the warrant for.”

Fred Lucy II and James Quinn voted in favor of opening the warrant.

Native Sun held its grand opening in December 2020.

It became Hudson’s second recreational marijuana facility when it did open, joining Temescal Wellness, which is also located on Coolidge Street.

Native Sun previously went to town meeting last year with a petition to extend its hours of operation. Voters approved that article, allowing Native Sun to push its closing time from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
