REGION – Area youth hockey players still have time for registration, tryouts and informational skate sessions with the Triboro Youth Hockey Association, which is holding those events later this month.

For Triboro, which serves Marlborough, Southborough and Westborough, these are opportunities to bring new players into what is a long running organization in the area.

“It’s a very long standing program with a lot of rich history,” Triboro President Kyle Graham said in a recent interview with the Community Advocate.

Counting stars like Marlborough’s Bobby Butler and Westborough’s Jordan Lavallee- Smootherman among its alumni, Triboro is proud of its network and its success.

“We’ve been very successful and we’ve been around for a long time,” Graham said.

The team has recently run partnership events with the Worcester Railers that allow players to enjoy professional hockey atmospheres at the DCU Center in Worcester.

That’s on top of familiar hockey tutelage, including an emphasis on small-area play, which involves closing young players within a tighter area on the ice for scrimmages and games.

“That allows the players to develop more skill under a little bit of pressure,” Graham said.

He noted the individual work of people like Butler, who he said has helped with practice plans.

He similarly celebrated the strength of the broader local hockey community.

“Hockey is a small community, but it’s people who are very passionate who are always there to help you,” he said.

Triboro currently serves around 250 players in the area, running programs from a beginner level to the u18 level.

Those registration, tryout and information skate sessions are taking place this month.
